The Forgotten (Female) Quantum Pioneer, Grete Hermann

Kaleida Studio | Aeon | 24 October 2018

The Forgotten (Female) Quantum Pioneer, Grete Hermann is a short animated film that brings to life the story of Grete Hermann, a German mathematician and philosopher whose groundbreaking work in quantum mechanics was largely overlooked. Through expressive animation, the film highlights her critical contributions and the challenges she faced in a male-dominated scientific community.

While creating the film, Julie Gratz (Kaleida Studio) and I drew inspiration from Bauhaus, De Stijl, and German Expressionism—art movements of Grete Hermann’s era. The result is a bright, modern style that vividly conveys the bold, groundbreaking ideas Hermann helped shape.
